It’s the end of the year, and I’m sprinting headfirst into the holidays like someone who definitely overestimated her stamina. I’m feeling so much better after surgery (THANK GOD), but I still get little twinges that remind me my body would like me to calm the hell down just a smidge. It’s a good problem to have, truly. I’m not even mad about it. I just wouldn’t say no to a bit more get-up-and-go or maybe one of those good naps.
On the writing front, my novel has officially wrapped beta reading, and I got some really solid feedback. I won’t lie, that shit was scary. I’ve never done beta reads before, and now I’m wondering why I waited so long. The feedback has been thoughtful, encouraging, and exactly what I needed. So now I’m in revision mode, tightening things up and preparing for the next, much scarier step.
Sending it to my second family.
Yes, my second mom is an editor, which is both a blessing and a full-body anxiety experience. I trust her completely, but wow, am I intimidated. I don’t want to look like a fool in front of this lady. And let’s be honest, the real terror is the smut. It’s not like she doesn’t know I write spicy things, but knowing she’ll be reading it with a sharp, professional eye has me questioning all my life choices.
Heaven help me.
To make things even more interesting, I’ve learned that my sister-from-another-mister (and missus), who also happens to be my editor mom’s daughter, likes to read passages out loud. And when I say I had a moment of panic, I mean a moment. Still, she’s kind, she loves me, and I trust that she won’t call me a dumb ass to my face. Plus, my best friend will be there with tea, reassurance, and good vibes like a proper emotional support human. I will survive this. Probably.
The goal right now is a real, intentional launch sometime this summer. June or July feels right, depending on what feedback comes back. I want to make it a whole thing. Not because I expect the book to conquer the world, but because it deserves care. This story is my baby. I’ve poured so much thought, love, soul, and time into it, and letting it out into the world is terrifying in that very specific, vulnerable way.
At the end of the day, though, all I really want is for one other person to fall in love with it alongside me. If that happens, I’ll consider it a win.
